Questions to ask in your first physio role

Starting a first physiotherapy role can bring plenty to learn, even when you are well prepared for the work itself. Asking clear questions early can help you understand how the team works, where to find support and how learning fits into your day.

Ask what supervision usually looks like: How often will we meet? Who should I contact between planned sessions? What should I bring to make a discussion useful? The answers can help you understand how to raise questions and make good use of available support.

It is also reasonable to ask how the team handles uncertainty and escalation. Who should I speak with if I am unsure what to do next? How are urgent concerns raised? What local guidance should I know about? Follow the processes and professional guidance relevant to your workplace and role.

During induction, ask about everyday expectations as well as formal learning: What systems should I learn first? Where are relevant policies and resources kept? How can I find out about learning opportunities or continuing development? You do not need to ask everything at once. Keep a running list and bring questions to an appropriate colleague or supervisor.

Every workplace is different, so use the conversation to understand the support and expectations available in your own setting. These prompts are general professional-development ideas, not a statement of regulatory requirements or a substitute for workplace guidance.
